Shatter is a relatively new method of consuming cannabis. It is a form of dabbing or vaporizing THC extracts.
Shatter is a Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) extract that is combined with solvents and other cannabis material. When the blend cools and dries, it hardens into a glass-like consistency. It typically has a transparent, amber tone. It is shattered into pieces for consumption. Therefore, it’s called shatter. Occasionally, the consistency can be like melted candy.
It was made popular during the 1990s. Typically, shatter is highly potent in THC. Therefore, it is not recommended for beginners.
How is Shatter Smoked?
It is vaporized with a rig. A rig is a water pipe that includes a detachable bowl called a nail, and sometimes a carp cap. The bowl is pre-heated to a high temperature with a small butane torch. Nails are designed and manufactured to withstand high temperatures. A small amount of the THC extract is placed on the tip of a dab tool. A dab tool is a thin chopstick-like instrument with a flat end. It’s used to hold the concentrates into the hot bowl without burning your fingers.
Once the tip of the dab tool and concentrate is placed within the hot bowl, the elements will instantly vaporize. Some people like to place a carp cap over the bowl to prevent any vapor from escaping. Finally, the vapor is inhaled, exhaled, and you get super high.
Lastly, beware of unsafe, homemade shatter. Dangerous additives can be included to create the correct consistency.
